The fifth edition of IPL was a stunning amalgam of Bollywood razzmatazz coupled with and high-octane performances by International stars at the YMCA College of Physical Education. The glitterati was lead by none other than mega star Amitabh Bachchan. He gave a recital of the poem ‘If I Were to be Born Again’ in his baritone voice and inimitable style, composed by lyricist Prasoon Joshi.. The recital was coupled with a dance performance choreographed by Shiamak Davar at the background gave an apt start to the glittering ceremony, which set the stage for the 54-day extravaganza featuring nine teams.
Bollywood queens Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor gave colourful, scintillating dance performances. Priyanka Chopra set the mercury high with hit numbers from ‘Don’, ‘Don 2′ and ‘Kaaminey’. She was joined by ace Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, shaking a leg on the stage.
‘Chammak Challo’ irl of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor held the audience’s breath with her dance numbers from ‘Ra One’ and ‘Agent Vinod’.
Prabhu Deva, the dancing sensation of India did powerful strokes with power backed performances, dancing to songs from ‘Wanted’ and ‘Hum Se Hai Muqablah’.
There were mellifluous musical renderings by South African percussion band ‘First Project’, composer DJ Ravi Drums and Colonial Cousins, along with a host of other programmes, before the event was flagged off.
