The image of Qutbuddin Ansari, with soot-stained face and wide-eyed terror was used as the logo for Gujarat Riots 2002.Now Qutbuddin claims that Bollywood film producer Mahesh Bhatt has been forcing him to attend a riots related function being organized by im and Teesta Setalvad on 28 February at Mumbai.
Qutubbuddin Ansari has exposed double game of Teesta Setalvad and her infamous NGO ‘Citizen for Justice & Peace’, saying that “Everyone has used me and my photograph with folded hands begging for the mercy for their selfish gain”. In order to ‘celebrate’ a ‘decade of the Post Godhra riots’, self proclaimed rights activists like Teesta Setalvad and Mahesh Bhatt are organizing functions to ‘commemorate’ the communal riots.
Qutubbuddin has already written to the Commissioner of Police, that he is leading a peaceful life in Ahmedabad and has requested the police to direct media and NGOs to restrain from using his picture in newspapers, magazine, website etc. The photograph that springs up here and there in various websites and often newspapers disturbs the peaceful life he and his family has. Media had given widespread coverage to the photo of Qutubbuddhin Ansari, with folded hands during the times of the 2002 riots.
According to the website GujaratRiots.com, the photo is not genuine (Link)
In his complaint dated 9 June 2011, Qutubbuddin says, “Various National and International NGOS have put my said photographs on their websites using it for publicity & donations in the name of helping riot-affected people.” However he stated that he never received any compensation from any NGO.
