Rs 1,000 Notes to be Issued by RBI with Inset ‘R’
Banknotes of Rs 10 denomination will now have an inset ‘R’ in the Mahatma Gandhi series. This has been announced by the Reserve Bank of India. The notes will be issued soon and will bear design similar to the banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005 that was issued earlier.
“The RBI will shortly issue Rs 1,000 denomination banknotes with inset letter ‘R’, in the Mahatma Gandhi Series bearing the signature of D Subbarao, Governor, RBI, and the year of printing on the reverse of the banknote,” said sources from the central bank. All banknotes of Rs 1,000 denomination issued earlier by RBI will remain in legal tender, added the source.
