Tax Fraud by Catholic Association of S. Kanara, Mangalore

The Income Tax department has started probing an alleged IT fraud indulged in by Catholic Association of South Kanara, (CASK) Mangalore. The organization has the Bishop of Mangalore as its chief patron. According to the circulars issued by the President of the organization, Derek Lobo, the group has been in receipt of over Rs. 2 crore in cash.  However, the same has not been reflected in any audit report. There has also not been any payment of taxes, alleged the organization President.

Circulars issued on on 6 and 9 June, 2011 show donations of over Rs. 1crore, circulars issued on 1 June, 2011 reveals revenue of upto Rs. 10 lakhs rupees earned though sale of liquor. It has also been stated that the money was intended to be kept as deposit in the names of office bearers and members of the association.

Officials of the Income Tax have stated that the matter will be probed into, with the Bishop being summoned separately and personally.
