Supreme Court on Monday asked Sabarimala temple the reason for which women are not allowed to enter the temple premises.
The top court asked, “Why women can’t enter Sabarimala temple?” . Women cannot be denied into the temple in Kerala as long as the Constitution permits to do do, apex court said
Travancore Devaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan had said, “Women should be allowed in the Sabarimala Temple only after the invention of a machine to ‘check the purity of women’”
Women are not allowed inside the temple after they attain puberty. While men of any age are allowed, women only before they reach puberty or after menopause are allowed into the temple. They are considered unclean otherwise. This age old rule of the temple had recently stroke a controversy after Srabarimala Temple Board decided to install machines which can test menstruating women. The statement by a board member had started a huge debate on social media too.
