1984 Sikh Massacre: Akali Dal, BJP Seek Justice

Friday, November 4th, 2011 | by

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was visited by a joint delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP leaders, seeking punishment for the Congress party members accused in the 1984 riots, where 2700 Sikhs were brutally massacred. The group included M Venkaiah Naidu, Vijender Gupta, amongst other MPs and office bearers of both parties. A memorandum was also submitted.

“More than 4,000 Sikhs were massacred in Delhi alone in the Congress sponsored massacre in 1984. Besides this, more than 7 thousand Sikhs were killed in other parts of India. The accused are still at large. Where is justice in this case?” stated Venkiah Naidu. He alleged that the Congress government at the centre, along with Delhi police were shielding those accused.

”The Delhi Police had prepared a chargesheet against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in April, 1992, but it has not been filed in the Court till date. It is evident the Centre is trying to save the accused,” stated Naidu.

“The Delhi High Court had ordered the CBI to probe into the massacre, but unfortunately the agency under pressure from the government is trying to save the guilty persons just like the Delhi Police,” alleged Naidu.
