Rahul Faces a Hostile Amethi

Local residents of two Amethi villages raised slogans as Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP reached the place. Irate villagers, who were in a group of around 40 people stood before the Munshiganj guest house where Rahul was staying, voicing their protests, braving the rain. The villagers were angry at not having received an audience with Rahul Gandhi.

The villagers of Chitkapur and Radheypur had waited for long to meet Rahul Gandhi on the second day of his visit to Amethi, the Congress MP’s constituency. The villagers were eager to submit to Rahul, applications that requested for handpumps, medical treatment, education, roads etc. But the were met with disappointment as they were denied entry.  The villagers also wanted an overbridge near Amethi railway station.

The villagers were headed by headman Girishchand Misra and former pradhan Mumtaz Khan. According to sources, the demands they planned to voice, were long pending. The villagers ended up raising anti-Rahul slogans.

However, later, local Congress leaders and administrative officials mediated and the villagers were granted permission to meet Rahul. They have been promised action regarding the grievances voiced.
