Muslim Organizations in Assam and Manipur Under Intelligentsia Scanner

14 Muslim organizations in Assam and other North eastern areas are now under stringent observation by the intelligentsia.These organizations, that have been functioning since 20 years have come under scanner owing to the growing instances of violence in the districts of lower Assam. The groups are:
    1. Muslim Security Council of Assam
    2. United Liberation Militia of Assam
    3. Islamic Liberation Army of Assam
    4. Muslim Volunteer Force
    5. Muslim Liberation Army
    6. Muslim Security Force
    7. Islamic Sevak Sanng
    8. Islamic United Reformation Protest of India
    9. Revolutionary Muslim Commandos
    10. Muslim Tiger Force
    11. Muslim Liberation Front
    12. Muslim Liberation Tigers of Assm
    13. Muslim United Liberation Front of Assam
    14. Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam

The list of these groups has been prepared by intelligence agencies following inputs suggesting that the activities they indulged in were inimical to peace and social harmony. “All these organizations have come into existence in the last 20 years. While many of them are believed to have external links, some are engaged in militant activities,” stated an official.

A list of 5 organizations, with Manipur as base has also been prepared:

  1. Islamic National Front
  2. Islamic Revolutionary Front
  3. United Islamic Liberation Army
  4. United Islamic Revolutionary Army
  5. People’s United Liberation Front

The state government of Assam has also called for a CBI probe into the recent violence that claimed 73 lives. “The Centre will on Thursday send a special team, comprising home ministry officials, to Guwahati to decide on which particular cases from among the FIRs registered by the local police would be taken up for probe by the CBI,” said official sources.
