The voice that boomed “Babumoshay” will be eternally silent. Rajesh Khanna, the first superstar of Bollywood died in his Mumbai home today. He was 69. The cremation will be done tomorrow at 11.00 am. Rajesh Khanna was battling ill health since quite some time and had been making frequent visits to the hospital. Rajesh Khanna is survived by wife Dimple Kapadia and daughters Twinkle and Rinkie.
It was son-in-law Akshay Kumar, who announced the news of the superstar’s death to the scores of fans gathered outside his Bandra home. He said that his father-in-law “has gone to a very nice and heavenly place” and requested his fans to “say their prayers for the star.” Akshay Kumar, along with his wife Twinkle, mother-in-law Dimple were by the side of Rajesh Khanna till his last breath.
The news of Rajesh Khanna has been received by the Bollywood fraternity with shock and grief. “We always thought he would come back (from the hospital). We are in shock right now,” said Hema Malini, who paired with him in movies like “Andaz”, “Prem Nagar” etc. Recollecting her last meeting with the superstar, Hema Malini said, “We met at Apsara Awards, at the celebration of 100 years of cinema. He spoke to us and he talked properly and looked fine.”
“I have worked with him in many films but right now this is a very sad moment and I must go and meet his family members,” she added.
