Joining the family members of Sarabjit in order to secure his release is Bollywood icon Salman Khan.He has made an eternal plea to the people of Pakistan to release Sarabjit, who is on a death row. Salman said that it pained his heart to see the family members in utter despair, running from pillar to post, trying to secure his release.
“Requesting the people of Pakistan to support me to help free Sarabjit, who has been in prison since 30 yrs. Please. Allah ka vasta (for god’s sake),” tweeted Salman. “I saw a picture of Sarabjit’s sister, it killed me. Felt real sad for her. Help me, help her,” he tweeted further.
“Request the awam (people) of Pakistan, members of the press, Govt of Pakistan, President (Asif Ali Zardari) Zardari, a humble request. It would be the most amazing gesture to send Sarabjit back to his family after 30 years. Hope you support me like it’s your own cause,” he added.
Pakistan had earlier made an announcement that Sarabjit was to be a free man. However, the announcement was corrected, with a clarification issued stating that it would be Surjeet Singh, another Indian prisoner, who would be released.
Meanwhile Sarabjit Singh’s sister, Dalbir Kaur thanked Salman for his gesture in urging the Pakistani Government in granting amnesty to Sarabjit and let him retrun to his home land. She thanked the Punjab government also for offering support for strengthening the cause of her brother’s release. “I thank Badal Sahab and the whole Cabinet from the bottom of my heart for they have passed such a resolution in this time of sorrow. I hope that it will be implemented. Our Indian Government will also stand by it. Pakistan will also reciprocate when they get appeals from all sides,” stated Kaur.
“It is a matter of great humility for us that he has made an appeal for Sarabjit. He has made his appeal with so much pain that I hope Zardariji’s heart and the heart of the Pakistani media and the people there will melt,” said Dalbir, regarding the plea voiced by Salman.
“Wanted to tweet this for the longest time, saw a picture of Sarabjit’s sister, it killed me. Felt real sad for her. Help me help her. It’s a personal request to all of you in Pakistan to send Sarabjit back to his family in Punjab, hope you find it in your hearts to help,” said Salman.
