India’s first fully functional high-resolution screen laptop ACi, will hit Indian market at a price of Rs 4,999. The brand was unveiled on Wednesday by the longest standing computer specialist of UK ACi, on Wednesday. They will be marketed by Allied Computers International (Asia) Ltd, a BSE-listed group company. ACi India is known for laptops and PCs, which have innovative designs.
“We have launched India’s super low cost laptop at Rs 4,999. It will be real fully functional, Windows compatible laptop, at the lowest price tag in the country,” said Hirji Patel, Mananging Director of Allied Computers International’s (Asia). According to Patel, the company hopes to make a sale of 200,000 sets in India, in the first year.
Regarding the viability of the project, Patel stated that the product will be imported from China, where the profit margin is very lean. “We will never compromise on quality with price. The range we will be offering are carefully designed and developed just like majority of our models launched both in UK and India,” Patel reassured.
According to patel, even though India enjoys colossal sale of more than 2.5 million laptops per annum, it hardly comes up to 10% of what is being sold in UK and other European countries. “Introducing such low-cost computing devices becomes more significant in the wake of various state governments like Tamil Nadu, UP and others announcing to provide laptops for students. The company is looking at offering low cost laptops to these state governments,” Patel added.
