UP CM’s Wife Dimple Yadav to contest Lok Sabha By-Elections

Dimple Yadav, wife of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav wife  will be Samajwadi Party’s candidate for the Kannauj Lok Sabha by-election. And with the announcing of her candidature, the Congress party has decided not to field any candidate against her. The byelection will be held on 24 June and Dimple is expected to file her nomination at the constituency on Tuesday. The move by the Yadavs come following Chief Minister Akhilesh’s resignation after his election to the legislative council.

“We had not contested the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha election and we are not contesting it now,” said Congress Party General Secretary Digvijay Singh, adding that no candidate has been put up at Manipuri either, the place from where Mulayam Singh Yadav contested. The decision taken by the Congress stands in sharp contrast to the byelection held to the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat in 2009, when the  party had fielded Bollywood star Raj Babbar against Dimple. Babbar saw victory in the polls, with Rahul gandhi making a strong campaign against her.

The move is supposed to be a follow up of the public announcement made by Mulayam Singh Yadav at the UPA’s third anniversary dinner last month about offering support to the Presidential candidate decided by Congress.
